Ukrainian drones carried out an attack against a base that stored Iskander tactical missile systems in Crimea, striking structures protected by reinforced concrete.
The operation, conducted by the Special Operations Forces, took place during the night of April 28 at a former military installation near the village of Ovrazhky, about 40 kilometers from Simferopol.
According to the Ukrainian military, the equipment was camouflaged and positioned in a strategic location, from where it could quickly strike both the front line and cities in the country’s rear.
Despite the reinforced protection, attack drones managed to overcome the barriers and directly hit the stored systems.
Images recorded during the offensive show fires in the shelters that were hit, indicating significant damage.
The fire hotspots were monitored throughout the day by satellites from NASA’s FIRMS system, which identified heat points in the region. Local residents also reported drone movements during the night, crossing districts of Crimea.
Russian authorities acknowledged the attack, although they stated that some of the drones were intercepted by air defenses.
This episode adds to other recent actions against the same type of weaponry in the region. In March, Ukrainian forces had already destroyed an Iskander launcher while the crew was preparing to carry out a launch.
Ukrainian SOF middle-strike units struck a storage site for Iskander operational-tactical missile systems.
